Natural Nappy Rash Treatments

Tuesday, 16 October 2012

Regardless of what you do or indeed don't do your baby will most likely at some point be it due to illness or just one of those things, have episodes of Nappy Rash. Below is a brief outline of some natural remedies to try.

Loads of nappy off time

Raw silk liners in nappies.

Vitamin E cream or the insides of an EPO capsule

Breastmilk. Breastmilk has natural antibacterial properties and is a sterile solution making it the perfect natural cure for a host of skin problems, also including eczema. Wash the affected area with milk to ensure it is clean, then apply a thin layer of breastmilk and allow it to dry.

Bicarb soda in a warm bath and/or chuck some chamomile tea bags in the bath.

When you wipe add lavender oil and chamomile oil to the water (or even add lavender oil to cooled chamomile tea and use that)

After the last nappy change before bedtime, gently apply an aromatherapy oil made with Chamomile and
Lavender in a base of Jojoba oil.

Oliver Oil & Water:Natural and healthy, olive oil has been used for centuries for all different kinds of
ailments. Try whisking a tablespoon of olive oil with 5 drops of water until it forms a creamy smooth texture, then apply to baby’s clean, dry bottom.

Cod Liver Oil Capsules:
Another great natural remedy is to use cod liver oil capsules. Open the capsules and pour the oil over the affected area.

Corn Flour (super cheap and not carcinogenic like talc) just sprinkle over then entire affected area.

Honey (works fabulously but if nappy rash gets worse after using honey, it's most likely thrush, as honey can 'feed' thrush)

Egg whites: If you beat egg whites and put it on her bum at night when putting on her last nappy and leave it over night (obv unless she needs it changed ) - don't use this if history of egg allergy in family

Aloe Vera Gel (both as a preventative and a treatment)

Think about switching to cloth nappies.

Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't turn into thrush infection on the skin.

  1. Thanks! Nyah has some awful nappy rash at the moment. She's quite prone to it and had thrush twice before she was 6months old. At the moment she's teething and passing what would seem to be pure acid, lol. Have been using Lansinoh at night and Sudocrem in the day and it's clearing up apart from one nasty raw patch which I'm keeping an eye on. Will definitely try some of these remedies if it doesn't clear up in the next few days, especially if I can express a bit.
